While rescuing the hapless Salmoneus from the warlord Talmadeus, Xena is struck by a poison dart that slowly saps her strength. She knows that the only thing keeping the warlord from launching an all-out attack is his respect for her formidable, but waning power. Desperately, she and Gabrielle concoct a ruse that they hope will convince Talmadeus that the warrior princess is as strong as ever: Gabrielle must pretend she is Xena. The plan succeeds initially, but soon it is clear that Talmadeus has the upper hand and is going to kill the now comatose Xena. It takes a mighty effort by Gabrielle with her staff, and Xena's return from the brink of death to defeat the warlord once and for all.
